Garden planning, clearly calculated

About Bed & Barrow

Bed & Barrow is an independent garden-material planning project owned by Rob, built around transparent calculations and practical printable lists.

Useful planning, without a catalogue

Bed & Barrow helps homeowners turn garden measurements into understandable material quantities. It is an independent website project owned by Rob. There is no supplier affiliation, ordering service or lead-sale form on this release.

The focus is deliberately small: a dependable calculation engine, clear explanations and shopping lists you can take to a supplier. We create the page content, examples and illustrations for this site. Unit sources and material assumptions are explained in our calculation method.

Why we leave some numbers to you

Local bag sizes, prices and material densities vary. Rather than maintain a changing product catalogue or hide a generic default, we let you use your supplier’s values. Volume remains useful even when no defensible weight estimate is available.

I’m Rob. I enjoy creating free, useful resources that make everyday tasks a little easier. I hope you find something here that helps you and that you enjoy using.

I like the idea that a useful resource can make someone’s day a little simpler. Sometimes that means a clear explanation; sometimes it means a practical tool or a page you can print and use straight away.

That is why I created Bed & Barrow: a place for free resources to help with working out material quantities for everyday garden projects. My aim is to make the information straightforward and the resources easy to use, so you can get on with what you came here to do.

I hope you find these resources helpful and enjoy using them. If something could be clearer, or you spot a problem, please let me know through the contact page. Feedback helps me make the site more useful.
